Pelvic Stations in Labor

The picture on the right shows fetal station.

The long horizontal line in the middle of the pelvis (near the baby's head) is 0 station. The little lines above it show -1, -2, -3 stations (going from 0, -1 is next). Going down below 0 is +1, +2, +3. This baby's head is at +2 station - an excellent station to begin pushing, after laboring down.

Hiya, I just started reading your blog about a month ago. I find it fascinating! Thanks for linking to this post... I had always wondered what the heck pelvic stations were. :)

Welcome Jenny! Do you have a blog to share also? I love reading blogs :-) Some might say that I'm addicted.

I am 34 1/2 weeks, and at my checkup 2 weeks ago, I had been having some pretty frequent contractions. My doctor checked my cervix and said the baby had dropped and her head was pressing on my cervix. He put me on strict bedrest and Brethine q8h to stop the contractions. At my checkup yesterday he said she is at -1 station. Is that unusually low for this stage of pregnancy? I'm not dilated or effaced so I was just wondering if this is something I should be alarmed about or if he is maybe being overly cautious. I do feel a horrible amount of pressure and pain in my pelvis/vaginal area when I sit or stand.
